Richard Prince Louis Vuitton

I went to a totally fun party at the Royal-T Cafe and Art Space in Culver City, it was a dress up circus themed party called Cirque Du So Lame. I love clever puns like that!! I host Oscar parties where everyone has to bring a dish inspired by Oscar nominees, such as City of Cod, Catherine Ziti Jones, Gosford Pork, Spamdog Millionaire, etc. I have very creative friends =) Anyway, the owner of the Royal-T bought a limited edition Richard Prince LV bag. This is pink pony hair that has the LV monogram laser cute in the fur and the image was hand embroidered. It is a really cool bag to look at as a novelty item, as you can see this was displayed in a museum case for such purposes. I don't know how much was paid for this but it is obviously not something you should buy to use. But of course I'm wrong because there are 21 other women out there with this bag that is shaking their smug fingers at me.

History of The Handbag

From the earliest pouches to the replica designer handbags of today, handbags have a long history. Taking a ‘handbag’ to mean just about any receptacle worn on the body the earliest records of handbags are in Egyptian hieroglyphics were they appear as pouches slung around the waist. Although people must have continued to use handbags in the years that followed they next made their significant appearance as an important fashion icon during the 14th Century in Europe. By that time the material and decoration of the bag was already a measure of a lady’s social standing.
By the 15th century men had joined women in wearing purses that were often elaborately made including gold and fine linens for those who could afford it. Over the next hundred years as purses became more popular they were made of more common materials available to the general public. However, for those that could afford it, handbags were designed to match the various costumes worn by their owners. The handbag has remained a fashion accessory ever since and the word ‘handbag’ first came into use in the early 1900s.

Over the next 50 years handbags general purpose handbag became more common and no longer matched a particular outfit. During the 1950’s the first brand name handbag manufacturers appeared such as Louis Vuitton and Chanel. They have now been joined by other designers such as Gucci and Fendi handbags. These days handbags continue to be an important fashion accessory as well as a practical necessity. Interest in designer handbags is so great that it has spawned a parallel industry of designer replica handbags that follows every trend among the originals. Indeed, most people can’t tell the difference between a Louis Vuitton replica and the real thing.

History of Louis Vitton Handbag and The Founder

The founder Louis Vuitton was born in Jura, France (now part of the commune of Lavans-sur-Valouse), but moved to Paris in 1835. The trip from his hometown to Paris was over 400 kilometers, and he traveled the distance by foot. On his way there he picked up a series of odd jobs to pay for his journey. Two years later, at the age of 16, he apprenticed for the luggage manufacturer Monsieur Marechal. In 1854 he founded the company, which is now owned by LVMH, a French holding company helmed by Bernard Arnault.
In 1854, Vuitton opens his first store in Paris on Rue Neuve des Capucines, founding Louis Vuitton Malletier a paris. Before his quality trunks, French philosopher, Denis Diderot & Jean Le Rond d'Alembert makes mention of a Malletier and his techniques about 140 years earlier. In addition, Vuitton began by selling flat-topped trunks that were lightweight and airtight. All trunks before this had rounded tops for water to run off and thus could not be stacked, it was Vuitton's gray Trianon canvas flat trunk that allowed the ability to stack for ease with voyages.

The business was formed in 1854 and luggage begin to give way to handbag designs. The ever popular Noe bags were originally made to carry 5 bottles of champagne but it's success was so phenomenal that upscale women everywhere began to carry this elegant bag. The Damier Canvas design had it's debut in 1888 and in 1896, the familiar Monogram design was launched to try and counteract the replicas made by his competitors who were copying his unique styles. The Monogram logo consists of intersecting Louis Vuitton initials with a curved beige diamond and a 4 point star inset. The design is continued by it's negative consisting of a beige circle with a four-leafed flower inset. A PVC coating is added to the fabric which is embossed with it's own design.
By 1885, the company opens its first store in London, beginning its international growth and reputation. Soon thereafter, the Damier Canvas pattern is created by Louis Vuitton and bears a logo that reads "marque L. Vuitton déposée," which translates to "mark L. Vuitton deposited" or, roughly, "L. Vuitton trademark".

Today Louis Vuitton still stands for the highest quality and any purse that comes from their factory that does not meet these standards is destroyed. This company has stood the test of time for 3 centuries and continues to be a force in the fashion history of handbags.
